BOSTON – The Boston University women's lacrosse team (4-5, 0-3 PL) suffered a 17-7 loss to Army West Point (4-6, 2-1 PL) on Wednesday evening at Nickerson Field.
BU built to a 2-1 lead early in the first quarter before Army controlled the rest of the opening frame to go up 5-2. The Terriers added another goal in the second but the Black Knights continued to dominate 11-3 by the half. Army continued to pull ahead through the rest of the game and, despite four late goals from BU, topped the Terriers 17-7.
Freshman
Tessa Geddes had a career day with four goals. Sophomore
Elle Stevenson scored twice and junior
Avery Jones tallied one goal to make up BU's seven on the day. Freshman
Reilly Walsh continued her seven-game points streak with an assist on Stevenson's second goal. In net, freshman
Natalie Aiosa made six saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU got going early when Stevenson scored 1:04 into the game.
- Army scored its first goal at the 10:01 mark.
- The Terriers quickly regained the lead as Geddes controlled the draw and scored 11 seconds later.
- The Black Knights then scored five unanswered goals that carried into the second quarter.
- Jones scored BU's final goal of the half with 9:23 on the clock.
- A BU red card helped Army score three back-to-back woman-up goals before it added two more to head into halftime up 11-3.
- Army continued to build its lead to 16-3 with 3:19 to go in the third.
- Geddes netted her second of the evening when BU was a woman down to bring BU into the final frame.
- BU brought its momentum into the fourth quarter as Walsh found Stevenson who scored BU's fifth of the game.
- Geddes made it a hat trick day with a free position goal to cut Army's lead to 16-6.
- The Black Knights scored one more and Geddes added a final free position goal at the end of the fourth to bring the final score to Army 17, BU 7.
GAME NOTES
- Army outshot BU 31 to 19.
- BU went 16-for-20 and Army went 14-for-16 on the clear.
- The Terriers went 2-for-3 on free position shots while the Black Knights were 4-for-8.
