Women’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 3 Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston University women's lacrosse team suffered a 23-5 loss to No. 3 Boston College on Wednesday.
 
BC built a steady lead through the majority of the first half before BU could respond. The Terriers brought a fight early in the second half but could not negate the Eagles' lead.
 
Seniors Cassie Reinertson and Ellen Monahan both scored their first goals of the season and their first since 2022 in the loss. Juniors Raegan Bailey and Avery Jones as well as freshman Reilly Walsh all scored for the Terriers. Additionally, senior Hannah Tillier and junior Abby Cotraro both logged assists. 
 
Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Aiosa had a career performance with 11 saves between the posts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Boston College started the scoring early with two goals within the first minute.
  • The Eagles continued to push ahead unanswered to lead 10-0 after the first quarter.
  • BC carried its momentum into the second quarter, extending to a 14-0 lead.
  • Reinertsen lit the lamp for BU at the 1:23 mark to head into halftime at a 14-1 deficit.  
  • BU brought its momentum into the third quarter as Cotraro found Bailey who opened the scoring in the second half. 
  • As the midway point of the third quarter neared, Tillier found Jones on a woman-up opportunity to score BU's third of the day.
  • BC responded to go up 15-3 but Walsh took advantage of another woman-up opportunity to score not even a minute later.
  • The Eagles then scored eight unanswered goals that carried through the 3:54 mark in the fourth.
  • Closing out the scoring was Monahan who, after winning the draw, charged down the field and found the back of the net to bring the final score to BC 23, BU 5.
 
GAME NOTES
  • BU went 2-0 on extra woman opportunities while BC was 1-0.
  • The Terriers scooped up 12 ground balls to the Eagles' 15.
  • BC outshot BU 45 to 10.
  • The Terriers caused four turnovers, two of which came from Walsh.
  • Monahan controlled six of BU's 10 draws.
  • Aiosa faced 45 shots in net.
