Third-Inning Bursts Propel No. 23/24 Softball to Wins over Ohio and George Mason

CONWAY, S.C. – Helped by timely hitting and strong pitching performances, the No. 23/24 Boston University softball team opened the Beach Chicken Brawl with victories over Ohio and George Mason Friday afternoon at Coastal Carolina's St. John Stadium.

The Terriers (15-1) scored seven of their combined 10 runs in the third inning of the two contests to defeat both the Bobcats (11-9), 5-2, and the Patriots (7-11), 5-1. BU totaled 18 hits, all singles, and held their opponents to six singles and one solo homer.

Senior Kayla Roncin led the Terriers with five hits, one ahead of graduate student Caitlin Coker who set a new program record for career runs scored at 173. Graduate student Lizzy Avery (4-0) delivered a two-RBI single in the third inning against Ohio and pitched 4.1 scoreless innings of relief for the win. Senior Lauren Nett also came up clutch in the third inning against George Mason with her own two-RBI single, and sophomore Kasey Ricard (7-1) went the distance in the circle for the complete-game victory.

BU will face the two programs again, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday (March 9) against George Mason with a 12:30 p.m. first pitch against Ohio.
