CONWAY, S.C. – Earning its seventh shutout of the season, the No. 23/24 nationally-ranked Boston University softball team claimed a 2-0 victory over George Mason Saturday evening at Coastal Carolina's Beach Chicken Brawl.

Graduate student Allison Boaz (5-0) tallied five strikeouts over the final 5.2 innings in relief and six Terriers recorded a hit to help BU improve to 16-1. as the Patriots fell to 7-13.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Graduate student Caitlin Coker tripled to center with two outs in the bottom of the first, but GMU earned an infield pop up to end the threat.
• After allowing a lead-off single in the first, graduate student Lizzy Avery ran into trouble in the second with a walk, sac bunt and infield single to put runners at the corners with one out.
• Boaz entered the circle and kept the game scoreless on a fly out and ground out.
• In the bottom half, freshman Kylie Doherty doubled to right, took third on a grounder to second and then scored on sophomore Brooke Deppiesse's RBI single to left.
• Seniors Lauren Keleher and Kayla Roncin started the third with back-to-back singles, but GMU earned a fly out and pair of ground outs to keep the deficit at just one run.
• The Patriots' Kamryn Inman earned an infield single in the fifth and stole second but ended up stranded at third, as Boaz collected a strikeout and then made a great stab at a liner directed toward her on contact.
• BU added an insurance run during the bottom half thanks to Audrey Sellers' lead-off single, a hit-by-pitch, and GMU commiting a two-out infield error.
• Boaz allowed just one walk over the final two innings to seal the shutout victory.
