ST. PAUL, Minn. - Freshman
Macklin Celebrini and sophomore
Lane Hutson of the Boston University men's ice hockey team have been named First Team All-Americans by the American Hockey Coaches Association, as announced on Friday afternoon.
In addition, Celebrini was honored as the Tim Taylor National Rookie of the Year. He is the fifth BU player to win that award, joining Kieran Millan (2009), Jack Eichel (2015), Clayton Keller (2017), and Joel Farabee (2019).
This is the first time since 2014-15 (Jack Eichel, Matt Grzelcyk) that two Terriers have been selected as First Team All-Americans in the same season. Hutson is the first Terrier since David Farrance (2019-20, 2020-21) to twice be selected as a First Team All-American. This is the second straight year that two Terriers earned All-America accolades, as Hutson and
Matt Brown accomplished that feat last season.
Hutson is the seventh BU defenseman to be a first-team selection multiple times as Farrance, Grzelcyk, Matt Gilroy, Vic Stanfield, Bob Brown and Tom Ross are the others. He was outstanding in 2023-24, totaling a career-best 49 points by matching his career high of 15 goals and posting a career-best 34 assists. Hutson paced the nation's blue liners with 1.29 points per game this past season. A two-time Hockey East First Team All-Star and New England Division I All-Star, Hutson totaled an impressive 97 points on 30 goals and 67 assists in 77 career games, which led all active NCAA defensemen.Â
A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Celebrini ended his fantastic freshman season with 32 goals and 32 assists for 64 points. He was just the fourth player in Hockey East history to earn Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year honors in the same season. A Hobey Hat Trick finalist, Celebrini was also named the New England Rookie of the Year and was a unanimous Hockey East First Team All-Star. Celebrini ranks third in the country in points per game (1.68) and second in total goals (32). He is the only player in the country to record 30 goals and 30 assists this season and is just the fourth player since the turn of the century to record 30 goals and 30 assists as a freshman.
