Celebrini is the fourth Terrier to receive this prestigious honor, joining Chris Drury (1998), Matt Gilroy (2009) and Jack Eichel (2015). Celebrini, who was also named the Tim Taylor National Rookie of the Year earlier on Friday, is only the fourth freshman to win the Hobey Baker Award, joining Eichel, Michigan's Adam Fantilli (2023) and Maine's Paul Kariya (1993). In addition to winning the Hobey, Celebrini was honored as a First Team All-American on Friday by the American Hockey Coaches Association.
A native of Vancouver, Celebrini totaled 64 points on 32 goals and 32 assists and was the only player in the country to collect 30 goals and 30 assists this season. He is just the fourth player since the turn of the century to record 30 goals and 30 assists as a freshman. Celebrini became just the fourth player to be named Hockey East Rookie and Player of the Year in the same season after being chosen as the only unanimous Hockey East First Team All-Star, and he was also selected as New England Rookie of the Year.
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award, named for the legendary Princeton hockey player who was known as America's greatest amateur athlete of his era, died testing a repaired aircraft at the end of World War I. Hobey criteria includes strength of character on and off the ice, displaying outstanding skills in all phases of the game, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements.
