April 12, 2024

MANCHESTER, Mass. – Extending their win streak to six matches, the Boston University men's tennis team posted a 4-1 victory over Army West Point Friday evening at the Manchester Athletic Club.

The Terriers (17-7, 5-0 PL) captured all four points during singles play, including three in straight sets, to defeat the Black Knights (11-13, 3-1 PL) for the second consecutive season after pulling out a 2023 PL semifinal thriller. With the win, BU has defeated both Army and Navy in the same year for the first time since joining the conference in the summer of 2013.

Both sophomores Corey Craig and Alejandro Licea went 2-0 on the day to lead the Terriers. They first teamed together for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles and then won in straight sets in their respective singles matches.

Army though captured the doubles point by posting a 6-0 win on court No. 3 and breaking late in a 7-5 decision against sophomore Jakob Esterowitz and senior Johann Sajonz at line 2.

Esterowitz bounced back with a 7-6(2), 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles. Craig dropped the fewest games in a dominating 6-0, 6-2 win on court No. 1, and Licea held off a challenge in the second set after dominating the first to post a 6-1, 6-4 win in the No. 3 slot.

Junior Dion Loutas clinched the team victory by earning multiple breaks against Army in the third set en route to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win at line 4.

The Terriers will wrap regular season play by facing Lehigh on Sunday (April 14) at 9 a.m. with the Manchester Athletic Club serving as host for the second consecutive match.
