Terriers Fall to UMass Lowell, 20-7

LOWELL, Mass. – The Boston University women's lacrosse team (4-7, 0-4 PL) dropped a 20-7 decision to UMass Lowell (9-3, 0-2 AE) on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
The River Hawks built an early lead which they never relinquished. BU was able to make a significant cut into Lowell's lead late in the second quarter, but Lowell continued to push ahead in the second half. Despite the offensive effort from the Terriers in the third frame, the River Hawks ultimately came away with the 20-7 win. 
 
In the loss, junior Abby Cotraro led BU with two goals while sophomore Elle Stevenson, freshman Tessa Geddes, senior Tobey Tick and juniors Abby Cotraro and Raegan Bailey all found the back of the net once. Sophomore Alyssa Mozi, Tillier and Cotraro all added assists on the day.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lowell started the game with a 3-0 run.
  • Stevenson answered with BU's first goal of the game at the 10:35 mark.
  • The River Hawks then went on a seven-goal run to lead 10-1.
  • Geddes earned a free position chance on which she scored to record BU's second of the day and make it 11-2 with one quarter finished.
  • Lowell created a running clock early in the second frame and built to a 13-2 lead.
  • Tick halted the River Hawks' scoring streak when she found the back of the net off a pass from Cotrato.
  • Tillier then stopped the running clock as she took a feed from Mozi at the front of the net to score on a woman-up advantage.
  • Cotrato followed that up with her first goal of the game thanks to a setup from Tillier to bring the score to 13-5 in Lowell's favor at the half.
  • The River Hawks scored once at the beginning of the third quarter but were answered by Bailey who fought through multiple defenders for BU's sixth goal.
  • Lowell went on to score three unanswered goals to go up 17-6.
  • Cotraro shot a bouncer into the net to cut Lowell's lead to 10 by the end of the third quarter.
  • The River Hawks added three unanswered goals in the final frame to bring the final score to Lowell 20, BU 7. 
 
GAME NOTES
  • Lowell controlled 18 draws to BU's 13.
  • The River Hawks narrowly outshot the Terriers 32 to 29.
  • BU was 1-for-5 on free position shots while Lowell was 4-for-5.
  • The Terriers collected 15 ground balls while the River Hawks scooped up 14.
  • BU was a perfect 10-for-10 on clear attempts while Lowell was 16-for-18.
  • Senior Ellen Monahan caused four of BU's six caused turnovers.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Susie McGowan logged five saves while Natalie Aiosa had one.

  • The Terriers return home on Saturday to host Patriot League foe Lehigh on National Student-Athlete Day.
