No. 22 Softball to Host Boston College on NESN Tuesday Afternoon

BOSTON – Riding a 31-game home unbeaten streak, the No. 22/23 nationally-ranked Boston University softball team will host ACC rival Boston College on Tuesday with first pitch set for a 3 p.m. start time.

In addition to being on ESPN+, the Terriers' final non-conference game of the regular season will air on NESN as a part of BU's Fifty Forward package. Fifty Forward showcases women's events at BU to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX and the years to come for women's collegiate athletics.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • The Terriers are 13-0-1 at home this season following a 6-0-1 performance in the last homestand with three run-rule victories and a 1-0 12-inning marathon win over Bucknell.
  • BU is 3-3 against Power 5 programs this season with two wins over Michigan State (9-1, 3-2) and a 5-4 victory against Minnesota. The Terriers fell at then-No. 6/8 Duke (4-2), at No. 23/22 South Carolina (3-0 / 8 inn.) and vs. Northwestern (2-0).
  • The Terriers are currently No. 43 in the RPI rankings and are 6-3 on the season vs. top 100 though haven't played anyone in that group since the matchup against Northwestern. BU earned a doubleheader sweep at UConn (#103) back on March 26 (6-3, 1-0 / 8 inn.).
  • BU has three Terriers in the top 50 nationally for batting average with graduate student Caitlin Coker (19th, .432) leading the way ahead of senior Kayla Roncin (36th, .420) and senior Lauren Keleher (46th, .414). They all have 34+ RBIs, 42+ runs scored and 70+ hits
  • Roncin leads BU with 43 RBIs, while Keleher has seven homers alongside 15 doubles and 48 runs scored.
  • Sophomore Brooke Deppiesse (.358) and graduate student Lizzy Avery (.346) are the other two Terriers batting over .300 with both owning 27 RBIs apiece.
  • BU's pitching staff leads the nation with a program and Patriot League record 25 shutouts while ranking second in ERA (1.31).
  • In the circle, sophomore Kasey Ricard (23-3, 1.19 ERA) has totaled 218 strikeouts in 177.0 innings of work while holding opponents to .140 batting average. Graduate student Allison Boaz (16-1, 1.48 ERA) has earned 93 strikeouts in 118.0 innings, and Avery (6-0, 1.35 ERA) has posted 41 strikeouts in 41.1 innings.
  • Overall, the Terriers are batting .335 and holding opponents to .167 with a 77-25 lead in doubles and 47-11 advantage in stolen bases.
SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
  • The Eagles currently own an RPI ranking of 81, while the Terriers are sitting at No. 43. BC has posted three top-50 victories, all on the road, at current No. 24 Clemson (4-0), No. 29 Virginia (1-0) and Florida Atlantic (2-0). The Tigers were also ranked No. 16 nationally at the time.
  • BC is 9-16 overall against top-100 RPI squads, earning two wins at No. 64 Florida Gulf Coast and most recently two victories at No. 66 Notre Dame (10-9, 6-3).
  • Hannah Slike leads the Eagles batting .353 with eight homers and 26 RBIs, while Nicole Giery (.347) has 17 doubles, five homers and 23 RBIs.
  • The Eagles' pitching staff owns a 2.99 ERA that ranks 77th nationally along with the nation's 14th most shutouts at 13 total.
  • Abby Dunning (12-13, 2.58 ERA) has totaled 153 strikeouts in 154.2 innings of work while holding opponents to .207 batting average. Halie Pappion (10-7, 2.97 ERA) has tallied 88 strikeouts in 113.0 innings.
  • Overall, BC is batting .251 and holding opponents to .221 with a 51-36 advantage in stolen bases and 58-37 lead in doubles.
SERIES HISTORY
  • BC leads the all-time series, 26-25, in a rivalry that dates back to 1988.
  • The Terriers are currently on a five-game win streak following last year's 11-0 (5) run-rule win at BC. Three of those contests ended in a 3-2 decision, including an 11-inning thriller at BU in 2022.
  • Overall, BU is 11-10 at home with the 3-2 victory in 2019 snapping BC's five-game win streak back to 2014.

  • The Terriers will wrap the regular season by hosting Lehigh in a battle for Patriot League tournament hosting rights with three games scheduled on May 4-5. 
  • First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game is set for 12 p.m.
  • BU is currently atop the conference standings at 15-0 with the Mountain Hawks one game behind at 14-1.
