Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Terriers Fall to River Hawks, 1-0

BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer program ended its three-game homestand with a 1-0 loss to UMass Lowell on Thursday evening at Nickerson Field.

Capping a doubleheader with the men's soccer program, BU (0-2-1) limited the River Hawks (1-1-0) to just three shots on goal. However, Gaby Eckroth's goal off a corner kick in the 72nd minute made the difference for the visitors.

Junior Giulianna Gianino paced the Terriers with three shots, all of which were on goal. Senior Morgan Fagan tallied two shots of her own. Goalkeeper Celia Braun collected one save.

Taylor Burgess posted a six-save shutout between UMass Lowell's posts. Kelli Buckley provided the assist on Eckroth's first goal of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU had the first quality chance of the night in the fourth minute, when freshman Jaiden Schultz dispossessed a River Hawk defender by the top-left corner of the box, placing a shot on goal that Burgess collected.
  • Braun made her lone save in the 14th minute when Calliste Brookshire collected a stretch pass for a shot from 18 yards away, one-hopping the ball to Braun.
  • Moments later, Gianino flicked a shot from close to the right post, forcing Burgess to crouch for a save.
  • In the 24th minute, Schultz entered the box and dropped off a pass for Fagan, whose shot went wide left. On a Terrier corner, junior Margy Porta's header floated just past the left post.
  • Gianino placed another shot on Burgess in the 26th minute, shifting to her right before zipping the ball to the River Hawk netminder.
  • In the 56th minute, Fagan worked to her left into the box, but her 15-yard shot was blocked. BU kept possession in UMass Lowell's end, but the latter cleared senior Eileen Solomon's cross.
  • On the River Hawks' goal, Buckley inserted the corner kick. After a bounce, Eckroth blasted a shot into the upper-left corner of the net in the 72nd minute.
  • BU generated multiple corner kicks after Solomon had a shot blocked, but UMass Lowell successfully cleared them away.
  • Junior Shayla Brown connected with sophomore Ava Maguire in the 80th minute, but Burgess made the stop on the latter.
