Men's Soccer Records 1-1 Draw at Northeastern

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Highlighted by junior Quin DeLaMater's first career goal and graduate student Andrew Wike's five saves, the Boston University men's soccer team battled Northeastern to a 1-1 draw at Parsons Field Tuesday evening.

Opening a season with back-to-back ties for the first time in program history, the Terriers move to 0-0-2, while the Huskies now sit at 0-1-1. DeLaMater put BU on the scoreboard first in the 30th minute, and the Huskies took advantage of a penalty kick at 68:39 to net the equalizer.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • BU quickly applied pressure on Northeastern in the first minute, as sophomore Andrea Di Blasio forced keeper Tobias Jahn to make a diving stop on a curling corner kick toward the back of the goal.
  • Wike made his first save in the fourth minute when he stop a low free kick from just outside the box.
  • The teams went back-and-forth until DeLaMater broke the scoreless deadlock by intercepting a pass near midfield and driving the ball toward the NU box to set up a hard grounder toward the left post for the 1-0 advantage at 29:23.
  • Wike made a pair of saves in the 37th minute to help the Terriers enter the locker room with the one-goal advantage.
  • Jahn earned saves of his own at 54:05 and 58:22, respectively, to keep the deficit at one goal.
  • The Huskies applied pressure in the 66th minute with back-to-back corners and remained on the attack in the 69th when they drew a foul in the box.
  • Fraser Brown converted on the penalty kick by blasting the ball toward the middle with Wike diving to the side.
  • Both teams threatened over the final five minutes with a pair of corner kicks apiece but were unable to break the deadlock for the draw.
GAME NOTES
  • Senior Kevin Torres, senior Andrew Rent and DeLaMater joined Wike in playing all 90 minutes.
  • Sophomore Charlie Tuckerman and freshman Markus Ramsey both made their debut in the scarlet and white, while sophomore Keke Abai saw his first action.
  • Northeastern edged the Terriers in shots, 13-11, and in corner kicks, 6-3, with Jahn posting seven saves for the Huskies.
  • Both Rent and freshman Dylan Williams tallied a team-high two shots apiece.
  • BU and NU have recorded back-to-back draws for the first time ever in the rivalry that dates back to 1984 following last year's 1-1 tie at Nickerson Field. The Terriers now lead the all-time series, 22-10-4, though are 0-2-2 at Parsons Field over the last four contests.
UP NEXT

  • BU won the last meeting at home, 2-1, in 2023 after dropping a 2-1 double-overtime decision at UML back in 2019.
