Women’s Soccer to Visit Rhode Island on Sunday

September 14, 2024

BOSTON – In its last game before Patriot League play begins the following week, the Boston University women's soccer program travels to Rhode Island on Sunday (Sept. 15). Opening kick is slated for 1 p.m.

BU (0-5-2) looks to halt its three-game losing streak and capture its first road win since Oct. 1, 2023. Sunday marks the Terriers' third road contest on the year and is the second in a four-game road swing.

Rhode Island (2-3-2) also seeks to stop its three-match winless streak. Sunday serves as the Rams' non-conference finale.

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU last played on Sunday (Sept. 8) at New Hampshire, matching the longest stretch between games on the slate.
  • The Terriers were also idle for a week between their matches vs. Vermont and UConn.
  • Last Sunday, BU dropped a 1-0 contest to UNH.
  • Both sides were scoreless for the first 61 minutes. However, after sophomore Samantha Aronson stopped a shot on the goal line from a corner kick, the Wildcats buried the rebound for the lone tally.
  • Goalkeeper Celia Braun made three saves, facing 13 shots.
  • The senior is one of three Terrier netminders to record at least 170 career saves, joining Jessica Clinton and Meghan Lynch.
  • The Terriers sport a 41-23 advantage in corner kicks this year.
  • BU is averaging 14 shots per game in its road matches in 2024.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
  • URI is 2-3-2 on the season, most recently drawing with Bryant, 1-1, on Sept. 12.
  • Eight different Rams have registered a point this year, with Sam Hagerty and Lauren MacDonald each tallying three points.
  • Abby McCarthy has played every minute in goal, notching a .825 save percentage and 1.00 goals-against average.
  • Rhode Island was projected to finish ninth in the A-10 preseason poll.
  • Last year, URI went 4-9-6 with a 4-3-3 conference record, reaching the A-10 quarterfinal round.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Sunday marks the 13th all-time meeting between BU and Rhode Island in a series that began in 1995.
  • The Terriers sport a 9-2-1 advantage in the rivalry.
  • BU is on a seven-match unbeaten streak against URI, posting six consecutive shutouts in that span.
  • The Terriers have never lost to the Rams on the road in five contests.
  • Both teams played to a scoreless draw in Boston during their last matchup on Aug. 24, 2023. Braun made one save as BU outshot URI 14-4, but Rams keeper Faith Hutchins collected eight saves.
LOOKING AHEAD
  • Patriot League action opens for BU at Loyola Maryland on Saturday (Sept. 21). Opening kick is slated for 12 p.m.
