Lehigh Holds Off Men's Soccer on Senior Day, 2-0

BOSTON – After recognizing 11 Terriers, the Boston University men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 Senior Day loss to Lehigh on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

With the help of six saves in a physical contest featuring a combined 34 fouls, the Mountain Hawks improved to 8-5-3 and 5-1-1 in conference play, as the Terriers dropped to 8-6-0 (4-3-0 PL).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Lehigh missed a pair of shot attempts out wide, senior Diego Rived ripped a 22-yard shot on the run toward the left post, but Anton Kinnunen was able to make a diving save.
  • The Terriers created multiple chances, including three corner kicks, with junior Andrea Di Blasio heading a cross over the bar at 18:27 and senior Aidan Kieffer forcing Kinnunen to make another stop at 19:55.
  • Making his first appearance at net since Sept. 13, senior Ben Alexander earned his lone save of the game in the final seconds of the first half by jumping up with outstretched arms to stop a Lehigh header.
  • The Mountain Hawks broke the scoreless deadlock at 54:57 with a flick of the ball into the right side of the box to set up Trey Sheeler's shot inside the far post.
  • Less than a minute later, Lehigh struck again with Thomas Robertson putting away a cross from 15 yards for the 2-0 advantage.
  • Kinnunen stopped a shot from senior Giuseppe Bagnato at 67:42 and added another in the 82nd minute against sophomore Pharis Petrica.
  • Sophomore Dylan Williams pounced on the rebound with the keeper trying to recover, but a defender was able block the quick shot for the team save.
  • The Mountain Hawks withstood another Terrier attack in the 86th minute, as the backline blocked Bagnato's attempt and Kinnunen stopped freshman Sebastian Otero's ensuing shot attempt.
