TERRIER TIDBITS

  • BU went 1-1-0 against conference foe UConn in the Terriers' first Hockey East action last weekend.
  • On Friday night at Agganis Arena, the Terriers held leads of 2-0, 3-2 and 4-3 but could not keep them as the Huskies piled on five unanswered goals for an 8-4 win.
  • Senior transfer Owen McLaughlin scored his first two goals in the arched Boston in the loss.
  • Also scoring for the Terriers were sophomore Cole Eiserman and freshman Jack Murtagh.
  • On Saturday night, the series shifted the Toscano Family Ice Forum, and the Terriers responded to the previous night's loss with a 3-1 win.
  •  It seemed neither team could light the lamp in the first period entering the final minute, but then sophomore Jack Harvey cleaned up a loose puck left alone in the crease to make it 1-0 with 20 seconds left in the frame.
  • McLaughlin was the next Terrier to score, burying a power-play goal after being given a wide open shooting lane, making it 2-0 at 11:22 in the second.
  • The Huskies responded with a goal at 13:43 in the period, but then just 1:28 later Harvey found the twine again, this time taking a pass from McLaughlin from behind the net and finishing it to add some insurance.
  • Neither team would score the rest of the way, and BU sophomore goaltender Mikhail Yegorov closed out his night with 24 saves on 25 shots, including a few highlight-reel efforts in the final frame.
  • For McLaughlin, the back-to-back multi-point efforts were his first since Jan. 4 and 12, 2024.
  • Harvey's multi-goal game was his first since Feb. 9, 2024 against Merrimack.
  • Sophomore Cole Hutson is tied for second among defensemen in points in the NCAA.
HISTORY WITH MAINE
  • BU is 76-56-14 (.568) against the Black Bears, with the 148-matchup series dating back to 1924.
  • In 2025, the Terriers went 0-1-1 against Maine, with both contests at Alfond Arena.
  • BU tied the Black Bears, 2-2, in overtime in their last meeting and went on to win the shootout to earn the extra Hockey East point.
  • At Alfond Arena, the teams enter the series with 56 contests and BU owns a 27-27-2 record against Maine at their home rink.
  • The Terriers are 10-2-15 in overtime games against the Black Bears.
  • The Terriers' longest winning streak in the series was 13 games (Jan. 16, 1982 - Feb. 15, 1986) while the Black Bears' longest streak was 11 games (Oct. 31, 1986 - Nov. 10, 1989) and came just after the BU win streak.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS

  • Maine ranks 12th in the USCHO and USA Hockey polls coming into this weekend's matchup.
  • Last weekend, Maine split a series with Colgate, losing 3-2 on Friday night before pulling out a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday after trailing 2-0 after the first period.
  • Junior Max Scott — a Brown University transfer — was the overtime hero in that Saturday game, while Justin Poirier finished the weekend with two goals.
  • Junior Josh Nadeau is the top returning scorer for the Black Bears after posting 29 points in 2024-25 season.
  • Head coach Ben Barr is in his fifth season as head coach and guided Maine to its first Hockey East Tournament title in 20 years last season, along with the program's 20th NCAA Tournament appearance.
  • Junior goaltender and 2024-25 Second Team Hockey East All-Star Albin Boija leads the way between the pipes with five starts.
