December 31, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
CALGARY, Alta. - Former Boston University men's ice hockey standout and current San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini has been named to Canada's roster for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, Hockey Canada announced on Wednesday.
Celebrini becomes the fourth Terrier to officially be named to a men's Olympic hockey roster, joining Jack Eichel, Charlie McAvoy and Brady Tkachuk, who were among the first six players selected for the United States. A native of Vancouver, Celebrini will become just the second Terrier in program history to skate for Canada; Adrian Aucoin won silver in 1994.
An assistant captain with the Sharks, Celebrini has been sensational in his second season in the NHL. After totaling 63 points on 25 goals and 38 assists en route to finishing as a finalist for the Calder Trophy in 2024-25, Celebrini has already reached 60 points in just 39 games this year. He enters Wednesday with 21 goals and 39 assists. He currently ranks third among all skaters in points and is tied for second in the NHL in assists. Celebrini has notched 17 points (6g, 11a) during his current eight-game point streak, including one goal and two assists on Monday night in a 5-4 win over Anaheim.
During his lone season with the Terriers, Celebrini became just the fourth freshman and fourth Terrier overall to win the Hobey Baker Award as the top Division I men's college hockey player, doing so as the youngest player in the nation at just 17 years old. He also became the fourth man to be named Hockey East Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season, and was also named a First Team All-American and secured the Tim Taylor Award as the National Rookie of the Year. He totaled 64 points on 32 goals and 32 assists and was the only player in the country to collect 30 goals and 30 assists.
When Celebrini and Eichel take the ice in Italy, it will mean that all four Terriers to win the Hobey Baker Award played in the Olympics. 2009 winner Matt Gilroy was on Team USA in 2018 while 1998 recipient Chris Drury was a three-time Olympian, winning silver with Team USA in 2002 and 2010.
Team USA will announce its Olympic roster on Jan. 2 at approximately 8:25 a.m. ET during NBC's TODAY.
