Women's Lacrosse Falters Late Against Fairfield

BOSTON — The Boston University women's lacrosse team held a 7-6 lead coming out of halftime, but could not hang onto it as the Terriers (2-2, 0-0 PL) handed Fairfield (1-2, 0-0 MAAC) its first win of the season on a brisk Wednesday afternoon at Nickerson Field. 

The Terriers scored twice to open the second half as well, but the Stags scored seven unanswered goals to take the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Tessa Geddes started off the game with two goals, scoring while a player up on her second one with 11:40 to play.
  • Junior Jayne Feeney added the next tally at 8:01 in the first quarter, making it 3-0 BU early.
  • The Stags responded with two goals in the first and then the tying goal with 13:31 left in the second, coming out of Kelly Haggerty's pocket.
  • Continuing the trend of 3-0 runs, the Terriers went on another with senior Hannah Tillier scoring with 10:57 to play in the second.
  • Sophomore Izabella Amonte added her eighth of the season at 10:22 in the quarter off a free position.
  • Graduate Kendall Sims scored the next goal for BU off a Hannah Tillier assist, making it 6-3 BU with 10:22 to play in the second.
  • Fairfield responded with a goal from Katelyn Greeley while up a player at 8:09.
  • Senior Avery Jones fired home a free position goal with 4:32 to play in the second, extending the Terriers' lead back to 7-4.
  • Before the half could end, though, Fairfield scored twice and the Terriers took a 7-6 lead into the half.
  • BU got the first two goals of the second half, with junior Elle Stevenson potting one at 8:22 in the third quarterto kick it off.
  • Sophomore Reilly Walsh added another one at 5:55 in the third, pushing the lead back to a three-score game at 9-6.
  • From there, it was all Fairfield, as the Stags scored twice in the third quarter and then five times in the fourth, holding on for a 13-9 game.
GAME NOTES
  • Fairfield outshot BU 24-15.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Aiosa made 11 saves in the loss, her third game this season with double-digit saves.
  • The Terriers went 9-for-9 on clears in the first half but were just 6-for-9 in the second half.
  • Tessa Geddes' four draw controls brought her to 95 career draw controls, just five away from 100 in her career.
  • Geddes was also 2-for-2 in free position attempts.
  • The Terriers had eight different goal scorers, with Geddes leading the way with two goals.
  • Freshman Alexandra Burns tied the game-high in ground balls with four.
