BOSTON — The Boston University women's lacrosse team lost 16-8 at home to the No. 25/22 Navy Midshipmen on Saturday afternoon.
The No. 25/22 Midshipmen (8-4, 3-1 PL) jumped out to an 8-1 lead after a quarter and never looked back, taking multiple 10-goal leads to put away the Terriers (7-4, 2-2 PL).
For BU, sophomore
Izabella Amonte scored a team-leading four goals and increased her season total to 27, but the Mids overpowered BU on the draw with a 21-7 advantage and controlled the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Midshipmen came out firing, scoring the first three goals of the game.
- Sophomore Tessa Geddes posted the first BU goal of the day, taking a pass from senior Hannah Tillier and beating the Navy keeper to make it 3-1.
- From there, Navy kept pushing the tempo, scoring five more goals in the first quarter to take an 8-1 lead into the second.
- The second was more of the same for the Mids, as they jumped out to an 11-1 lead with 5:32 left to go in the first half despite goalkeeper Natalie Aiosa taking some opportunities away.
- With 2:19 remaining in the second, sophomore forward Izabella Amonte got involved in the action, scoring her first goal of the game.
- Amonte tallied another score with 1:06 left in the half while up a player, but Navy extended its lead to 11-3 with 11 seconds remaining in the frame.
- In the second half, Amonte got the scoring started with a goal at 10:08. Navy answered with 4:18 remaining in the third.
- Junior Leah Hodgins got on the board with a goal with 2:10 left, but Navy responded with 1:15 on the clock in the third, taking a 14-5 lead into the final frame.
- The Midshipmen scored twice in the first half of the final quarter to go up 16-5 with just over eight minutes to play.
- Hodgins got her second of the game 6:20 before the end of the game and helped spark a three-goal Terrier run.
- Amonte scored with 3:00 left and senior Avery Jones converted a free position with 29 seconds remaining, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
NOTES
- Navy got off 28 shots on goal compared to BU's 15.
- The Midshipmen pressed on offense, taking eight free position shots compared to BU's four.
- Both teams had 16 turnovers, but Navy caused eight against BU's six.
- The Terriers played better on both sides of the field in the second half, outscoring Navy 5-4 in the final 30 minutes.
- Sophomore Natalie Aiosa stopped 12 of the Midshipmen's 28 shots on goal.
- Amonte's mark of 27 goals leads BU this season and ties Elle Stevenson's team-leading mark from 2024.
