Terrier Trio Tabbed as New England All-Stars

April 2, 2025

BOSTON - Freshman Cole Hutson, junior Quinn Hutson and sophomore Tom Willander of the Boston University men's ice hockey team have been named New England Division I All-Stars, the New England Hockey Writers Association announced on Wednesday.

In addition to being selected as All-Stars, C. Hutson took home two major awards as he was selected as the George Carens Rookie of the Year in addition to winning the Bob Monahan Best Defenseman Award. This is the third straight year that a Terrier has been selected as the region's top rookie, as current Calder Trophy favorites Macklin Celebrini (2024) and Lane Hutson (2023) received that recognition each of the last two seasons. This is also the third consecutive year that a Hutson has been named as New England's top defenseman, as Lane won the Bob Monahan Award in 2023 and 2024.

Willander is now a two-time New England Division I All-Star after a sensational sophomore season. A Hockey East Second Team All-Star, Willander enters the Frozen Four having notched two goals and matched his career high of 21 assists for 23 points in addition to being a plus-19. He is a plus-8 over his last seven games and was a plus-3 across the Terriers' two NCAA regional wins this past weekend. One of the best two-way defensemen in the nation, Willander is one of just seven defensemen to have at least 23 points and be a plus-19 or better. Of those seven, Willander is third with 54 blocked shots. He has been effective while also staying out of the penalty box, taking just four penalties in 37 games. In addition to his success at BU, Willander represented Sweden at the 2025 World Junior Championship for a second straight year.

Q. Hutson has enjoyed his best season as a Terrier while helping lead the team to a third consecutive trip to the Frozen Four. The junior forward leads BU with 50 points on a team-high 23 goals and 27 assists, all of which are career highs. A Hockey East Second Team All-Star, Hutson is currently second in the nation in points per game (1.39) and is one of just nine players to reach 50 points this season. He is also one of only four skaters to have 23+ goals and 27+ assists this year. Hutson scored the overtime goal against Cornell in the regional final, one of his three game-winning strikes this year. On Feb. 15 against Providence, Hutson scored 50th career goal, which also served as his 100th career point. He is the fourth Terrier in this century to join the 50/50 club and is fittingly the 50th Terrier to score 50 goals and record 50 assists during his time at BU.

C. Hutson is the nation's best rookie and undoubtedly one of the top blue liners in the entire country. The Hockey East Rookie of the Year and a Hockey East First Team All-Star, Hutson leads all freshmen in points (46) and assists (32). He was named Most Outstanding Player at the Toledo Regional after leading all scorers in the entire 16-team field with six points on two goals and four assists. He recorded his third four-point game of the season against Ohio State, lighting the lamp in addition to securing a career-best three assists. Hutson also scored a highlight-reel goal to give BU a 2-1 lead against Cornell. He enters the Frozen Four as the points per game leader among all NCAA rookies and defensemen at 1.24.

Bernie Corbett ('83) also be honored at the New England Hockey Writers Banquet on April 22 when he is presented with the Parker-York Award for Contribution to New England Hockey. Corbett is in his 40th season as the Voice of Terrier Hockey, though he has been with the program since he first arrived on campus as a freshman in 1978 and became a student manager. Nobody has been to more BU Hockey games in person than Corbett, who has called over 1,500 games and who has been the soundtrack to some of BU's most memorable moments.
