JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Boston University track & field team takes to the track, runway and circle in the NCAA East First Rounds this week at the University of North Florida. 11 Terriers made the field for the regional event as they will rep the arched Boston in distance, jumps and throws from Wednesday through Saturday.
BU's mark of 11 student-athletes qualifying for the event is the most since 2022, when the Terriers sent 13 representatives to the regional qualifiers.
The Terriers are looking to send their first representative to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon since 2023, when Daisy Liljegren qualified in the 10,000m and earned Second Team All-America status. On the men's side, no male Terrier has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships since David Oludawara competed in the triple jump in 2018.
Kicking off the week's action will be junior
Owen Faulha, who will make his regionals debut in the javelin on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. He qualified as the 20th-best javelin thrower in the East Region with a mark of 67.45m — good for a school record. Faulha also won a gold medal at the 2025 Patriot League Outdoor Championships with a 64.00m throw.
Next, senior Samuel Roszak will take on the long jump at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. He enters with the 47th-best mark in the East Region, jumping 7.53m at the 2025 Patriot League Championships to win a silver medal.
Beginning the track events for BU will be junior
Parker Schneider and sophomore
Karsen Vesty in the 1500m preliminaries on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Schneider will run at his first regional after qualifying with a 3:41.14 time at the Raleigh Relays, coming in as the 42nd seed. Schneider also picked up a bronze medal in the 1500m at the 2025 PL Outdoor Championships
Vesty will join Schneider in his first regional appearance. The North Havelock, New Zealand native posted a time of 3:40.21 1500m time at the Raleigh Relays back in March and earned silver at the 2025 PL Outdoor Championships in the event. He is ranked 24th in the East Region entering the week.
Moving onto Thursday, junior Ellie Roan will return to the regional stage as she competes in the hammer throw at 10 AM. She qualified this year with a school-record mark of 59.91m, good for 27th in the East Region, and will look to improve upon last year's 36th-place finish with a 55.80m throw. Roan won gold at the 2025 Patriot League Outdoor Championships in the event.
Junior Peace Omonzane will compete twice for the Terriers, first beginning with the long jump on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. After finishing 42nd in the event in 2024, Omonzane comes in seeded seventh with a 6.44m mark — a school record she set while winning gold at the 2025 Patriot League Outdoor Championships. Omonzane will also compete in the triple jump on Saturday at 2:30 p.m, where she enters the competition as the 11th seed with a 13.06m mark. She set that at the 2025 Patriot League Outdoor Championships, breaking a meet record while winning gold. The Brampton, Ontario native was also named Patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet for her efforts.
Along with Omonzane, senior Asia Hamilton will take on the long jump on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Hamilton has the 45th-best mark in the NCAA East Region with a 6.12m jump that came at the Ken O'Brien Pre-Conference Meet, ranking fifth all-time at BU. She also won silver at the 2025 PL Outdoor Championships with a 6.10m jump.
The running events for the Terrier women will start with the 1500m run, as Indoor First Team All-American miler Vera Sjöberg will look to replicate her indoor success outside beginning on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. She comes in as the sixth seed with a 4:09.79 mark — a school record — and will look to improve upon a 23rd-place finish from 2024 in her third outdoor regional. Sjöberg will also run in the 5000m on Saturday at 8:10 p.m., her third time competing in the event at the NCAA East First Rounds. Sjöberg broke the BU school record with her 15:40.76 run at the Penn Relays, winning the event and posting the 12th-best time in the NCAA East Region entering the week. In 2024, she finished 25th with a mark of 16:21.88. At the 2025 PL Outdoor Championships, Sjöberg swept the 1500m and 5000m and joined the gold-medal winning 4x800m team, also taking home Patriot League Track Athlete of the Meet honors.
Joining Sjöberg in the 1500m will be freshman Caroline Collins, who used a clutch 4:17.07 1500m time at the MIT Final Qualifier to earn the 35th seed in the event at her first regional event. That mark ranks third all-time at BU. She finished fourth at the 2025 PL Outdoor Championships with a 4:20.77 time.
On Friday at 2:30, freshman
Guy Margalit will take on his first NCAA East First Rounds appearance, competing in the triple jump. He enters with a 15.36m mark in the event, 42nd in the East Region. The freshman won Patriot League Rookie of the Meet at the 2025 PL Outdoor Championships after earning silver with his 15.36m jump, also good for sixth all-time at BU.
Rounding out BU's competitors is junior
Freddy Collins, who will compete on Friday at 8:10 p.m. in the 5000m for the second year in a row at this meet. The junior from Stow, Massachusetts ran a 13:41.32 time in the event at the Raleigh Relays and enters the week with the 30th-fastest mark in the East Region.
