CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The Boston University men's rowing program continued racing at the 2025 IRA National Championship Regatta on Saturday, May 31 on the Cooper River with all four of its crews in action. BU sent two boats to the Petite Finals to highlight the day's racing.
Storms from Friday night created choppy water with occasional whitecaps that resembled Charles River racing for BU. Wind gusts traveling east reached 22 miles per hour to create a substantial cross-tailwind from the port side.
The Second Varsity 8+, coxed by
James Smith and stroked by
Filippo de Marsanich, sported overlap with Syracuse, Brown and Princeton and later locked into a battle with Penn for the fifth spot in the final 500 meters. The Quakers would ultimately prevail by four seats as the Terriers finished sixth in 5:42.230 to join Penn and Princeton in the Petite Final.
BU's Third Varsity 8+, coxed by
Hannah Noguchi and stroked by
Wynant Hubbard, was delayed multiple times as the wind made it difficult to get the boats lined up at the start. The Terriers ultimately finished sixth in 6:05.800 to slot into the Petite Final and sixth in the AB Semifinal.
The Terrier Varsity 8+, coxed by
Emily Slawin and stroked by
George Kreidler, went to battle with Cornell and La Salle and made a run near the 1,500-meter mark. The Big Red and Explorers withstood that push to finished first and second, while BU outlasted Georgetown's furious final strokes to place third in 5:35.550, about a half length ahead of the Hoyas and behind La Salle.
BU's Varsity 4+, coxed by
Luke Stroh and stroked by
Mason Laundry, competed against Northeastern, Colgate, Coast Guard, Loyola Maryland and Maryland. There was overlap between all six teams in the first 500 meters, but the Coast Guard pushed forward from there as BU crossed in a time of 6:49.440, good for sixth place and just over two seconds behind the Coast Guard. The Terrier crew finishes 24th overall in the nation.
