LOS ANGELES - It was a busy second day of the 2025 NHL Draft for the Boston University men's ice hockey team, as several future Terriers were selected across the second and third rounds on Saturday at L.A. Live's Peacock Theater.
Four incoming freshmen from the U.S. National Team Development Program were selected on Saturday, with defenseman Carter Amico and forward Jack Murtagh both going to the Philadelphia Flyers at 38th and 40th overall, respectively. Forward Conrad Fondrk went 50th overall to the New Jersey Devils before defenseman Charlie Trethewey was picked by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the third round at 73rd overall.
Amico played just 13 games for the U.S. Under-18 Team last season before being sidelined due to injury. He totaled 17 points (1g, 16a) across his two seasons at the NTDP and won silver with the United States at the 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge along with Murtagh, Fondrk and Trethewey. Murtagh totaled 53 points on 22 goals and 31 assists this season with the Under-18 Team and helped Team USA claim bronze at the 2025 IIHF U18 World Championship by totaling six points (2g, 4a) in seven games. Fondrk recorded 27 points (13g, 14) this past season and finished his time with the NTDP having notched 33 goals and 39 assists for 72 points. Trethewey tallied 20 points (6g, 14a) this past season and joined Murtagh in winning bronze with Team USA at U18 Worlds; Tretheway totaled 55 points (18g, 37a) in his two seasons with the NTDP.
This is the second straight year that two Terrier teammates were selected by the same team at the NHL Draft, as NTDP alumni
Cole Eiserman (No. 20) and
Kamil Bednarik (No. 61) were both taken by the New York Islanders before arriving at BU for their fantastic freshman campaigns.
The program's successful Saturday comes after rising sophomore
Sascha Boumedienne was taken 28th overall by the Winnipeg Jets. BU has produced over 200 draft picks since 1969, with 25+ Terriers taken in the first three rounds since 2019. No school boasted more selections within the first 76 picks of this year's draft than BU.
