Women’s Soccer Ignites 2025 Slate at Northeastern on Thursday

BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer program begins its 32nd varsity season on Thursday (Aug. 14) when it makes the short trip to Northeastern. Opening kick from Parsons Field is set for 6 p.m.
BU enters the year as the preseason favorite in the Patriot League, having earned all four preseason major awards for the conference. Last fall, the Terriers captured the program's fifth Patriot League championship and 14th overall conference title to make its 15th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Northeastern welcomes 10 newcomers to its roster after bringing back 16 letterwinners from its 2024 squad. Head coach Ashley Phillips is set to enter her 10th season at the helm.
Thursday's match airs on FloCollege, which requires a subscription. Northeastern Athletics will provide live statistics via StatBroadcast.

- Overall, BU went 6-8-7 on the year and 5-0-4 in Patriot League play, marking the first unbeaten conference performance since 2018.
- The Terriers return 23 letterwinners from that year while adding six newcomers.
- Of BU's seven All-Patriot League honorees, five are back for 2025: seniors Giulianna Gianino (first team), Margy Porta (first team), Mackenzie Stickelman (second team) and Helene Tyburczy (second team) as well as sophomore Bridget Carr (third team).
- Gianino (Midfielder), Porta (Offensive Player), Tyburczy (Defensive Player) and Carr (Goalkeeper) were all bestowed the Patriot League's preseason major awards.
- BU's captains this year are Gianino, Porta, Stickelman and classmate Natalie Godoy.
- Gianino enters her senior year ranked 12th in program history with 18 career goals and 46 career points.
- Megan Burke is in her first season as head coach after spending three years on Commonwealth Ave. as an assistant coach.
- Her assistant coaches include Marcus Carrington and Terrier alumna Amy Thompson (CAS'22, Wheelock'25).
- The Huskies were 2-9-7 a year ago, going 2-4-4 against CAA opponents.
- At home, Northeastern was 1-5-2, with the lone victory occurring on Oct. 20 against Campbell.
- Maggie Cochran is Northeastern's leading returning scorer, compiling six points last season.
- She joins Lauren Dupont and Eliza Teplow as captains.
- Thursday marks the 26th all-time meeting between BU and Northeastern in a series that began in 1996.
- The Terriers sport a 14-8-3 lead in the rivalry.
- The Huskies are on a three-game unbeaten streak, however, while the last two matches resulted in draws.
- BU and Northeastern played to a 1-1 tie at Nickerson Field last season on Aug. 18. Gianino deposited a goal in the 36th minute before the Huskies found the equalizer in the 67th minute.
- BU hosts its home opener on Sunday (Aug. 17) against New Hampshire for Youth Day. Opening kick is slated for 1 p.m.
