NEWTON, Mass. – Competing in the first of three local derbies, the Boston University men's soccer team fell late at Boston College, 2-1, on Tuesday night.
The Eagles (5-4) scored both goals during the 88th minute to rally past the Terriers (4-3), who held a one-goal lead for 71 minutes following
Anthony Harper's first career goal set up by junior
Lapo Romieri's corner kick.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU earned its first corner following senior Aidan Kieffer's blocked shot attempt at 4:57 but were unable to get a quality look.
- The Terriers cleared BC's first corner in the ninth minute and four minutes later saw freshman Sebastian Otero pressure the Eagles' backline with a pair of shot attempts.
- BC blocked Otero's third shot at 15:42, and the Terriers converted on the corner kick with Harper positioned in front of the goal to tap in Romieri's cross.
- The Eagles earned back-to-back corners in the 36th minute and peppered the Terriers with four shots over the final 10 minutes, but the backline did not break to enter the half with 1-0 lead.
- BC kept applying pressure early in the second half with two more corners, and Andrej Borak saved a shot from senior Damola Salami at 51:09.
- After Borak stopped senior Ethan Gill's shot at 73:57, junior William Clavier stepped up with a save of his own two minutes later.
- The Eagles kept the deficit at just one goal by blocking attempts from senior Diego Rived and junior Andrea Di Blasio in the 84th minute and clearing the ensuing corner.
- CJ Williams three minutes later tied the game by blasting a 25-yard shot past Clavier.
- Shortly after the equalizer, BC broke the deadlock by drawing a BU foul near midfield and remaining on the attack with the Terriers' attempted clear on a cross into the box finding the feet of Johannes Hanken Tjostheim for a quick shot inside the right post.
- BC utilized two more corners to drain the clock and seal the victory.
GAME NOTES
- Harper became the eighth Terrier to score a goal this season, while Romieri became the fourth to earn a second assist, as he grabbed the team lead at six points (2g,2a).
