AMHERST, Mass. – The Boston University field hockey team fell at No. 14 Massachusetts, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex.

Each side recorded 14 shots in the contest and UMass held a slim 7-6 edge in corners but the home team scored twice in each half and was able to keep the Terriers off the board.

Sophie Ortyl made her first start of the season for BU and turned in a six-save performance.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU recorded the first three shots on goal of the contest but UMass netminder Myrte van Herwijnen prevented the visitors from taking an early lead.
- The opening half was evenly contested until its late stages as the Minutewomen scored twice in 45 seconds to suddenly take a multi-goal lead into the break.
- Emily Barrett opened the scoring off an assist from Fiene Jenniskens in the 29th minute.
- Just moments later, UMass earned a corner and took advantage it, as Neva Eisenga scored with Jenniskens picking up another assist at the 29:24 mark.
- After successfully defending two corners early in the third, the Terriers applied pressure with a trio of shots on goal in the 35th minute only to have van Herwijnen protect the cage each time.
- A tap-in at the right post by Alexa Collins gave UMass a 3-0 lead in the 43rd minute.
- BU came out strong in the fourth quarter as it looked to get back in the game and earned three consecutive corners.
- On the last corner of the run, freshman Lucy Johnson redirected a bid from senior Caroline O'Brien high into the cage but it was overturned after a video review.
- Ortyl made an impressive stick save on a drag flick off a corner in the 55th minute.
- UMass scored on the final corner of the contest as Barrett earned her second tally of the game at 55:17 to create the 4-0 final.
