The Boston University men's ice hockey team will continue its 104th season on Friday when the Terriers host No. 18 Maine at Agganis Arena. Puck drop on NESN+ and ESPN+ is scheduled for 7 p.m. An audio-only broadcast will be located here.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers most recently played Northeastern to a 2-2 tie on Monday night in the opening round of the 73rd Dunkin' Men's Beanpot, but the Terriers won the shootout, 2-1, to advance to the title game.
- Freshman Jonathan Morello and sophomore Nick Roukounakis scored in regulation for BU.
- Junior Jack Harvey opened the shootout with a goal.
- Sophomore Mikhail Yegorov, who made 24 saves across regulation and overtime, stopped two of the Huskies' three shootout attempts.
- That set the stage for sophomore Cole Hutson, who converted his attempt to send BU to the championship game.
- Hutson also assisted on Roukounakis' game-tying goal, with freshman Charlie Trethewey and sophomore Sascha Boumedienne providing the helpers on Morello's marker.
- Hutson and his brother Lane are the only two NCAA defensemen since 2005-06 to notch 20+ goals and 50+ assists in their first 65 games.
- After going 5-for-5 on the PK against Boston College on Jan. 30 and 1-for-2 against Northeastern on Monday, the Terriers enter this weekend ranked 12th in the nation and second in Hockey East on the penalty kill at 84.4%.
HISTORY WITH MAINE
- BU is 76-59-14 (.557) against the Black Bears, with the 149-matchup series dating back to 1924.
- The Terriers dropped two games at Alfond Arena earlier this season, falling 5-4 in overtime on Oct. 31 before suffering an 8-5 setback on Nov. 1.
- BU had a six-game win streak over Maine prior to last season but has since gone 0-3-1 against the Black Bears over the last four meetings.
- All four of those games took place at Alfond Arena - BU has won the last four meetings at Agganis Arena and the last seven in Boston.
- BU is 19-6-3 against Maine at Agganis.
- The Terriers' longest winning streak in the series was 13 games (Jan. 16, 1982 - Feb. 15, 1986) while the Black Bears' longest streak was 11 games (Oct. 31, 1986 - Nov. 10, 1989) and came just after the BU win streak.
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
- Maine lost in overtime to Providence, 3-2, on Saturday after sweeping a two-game series at UMass Lowell the previous weekend.
- In fact, the Black Bears' only three losses in January were to Providence.
- Freshman Justin Poirier leads Maine in points with 29 thanks to a team-best 18 goals.
- Senior defenseman Brandon Holt paces the Black Bears with 17 assists and is second on the squad with 22 points.
- Junior netminder Albin Boija is 10-6-2 in 18 appearances, posting a 2.56 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage.
