Tutoring Services
Student-athletes are provided tutors in a wide variety of courses at no charge to the athlete. Tutors are available to student-athletes every semester, including summer sessions, and are offered in individual or group settings. The Department of Athletics employs highly qualified undergraduate and graduate students at Boston University who have demonstrated mastery in the subject matter and possess the ability to teach others. Athletes are encouraged to utilize this service for weekly tutoring, test preparation or anytime the student-athlete feels they could benefit from extra support. If a tutor in a specific discipline - or to meet an identified need - is not available through Student-Athlete Academic Support Services (SASS), the student-athlete is referred to the Educational Resource Center (ERC) or to an individual school/college tutoring program.

Tutoring Policies
  • Appointments: All appointments with SASS tutors MUST take place in the Academic Support Center or through an online Zoom meeting, unless otherwise permitted by a SASS staff member.
  • Cancellations: if you need to cancel an appointment, you MUST cancel through Grades First at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Unexcused missed appointments: if you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, you will receive a warning from the tutorial coordinator. Two unexcused absences will result in the loss of tutoring privileges.
  • Please check in for all tutoring appointments by swiping into the Academic Support Center and clicking check in for tutor appointment
(regardless of if you have required study hall)

  • What can I expect from my tutor?
    • It is your responsibility to be prepared with materials and questions for your tutor.
    • Your tutor may need a few minutes to refresh their memory of the material to better teach it to you.
