Field Hockey Drops 1-0 Decision to Boston College

September 13, 2000

CHESTNUT HILL, MA (Sept. 13) - Amelle Wulff scored on a penalty stroke 10:25 into the second half, and the tally stood up as No. 14 Boston College handed No. 16 Boston University a 1-0 defeat at Alumni Field Sept. 13.

The Terriers drop to 2-2 on the season. Boston College improves to 5-1.

The penalty stroke came after a scramble in front of the B.U. cage where junior goalkeeper Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, NH) was forced to make a diving stop, one of her seven saves in the game. Wulff's penalty stroke sailed just above the goalkeeper's outstretched arm on the stick side.

"Susan has been playing awesome in goal," head coach Sally Starr said.

After a sluggish start, the Terriers began to take the play to the Eagles at the end of the first half. Sophomore Christina Strauss' (Newburyport, MA) shot from the corner was kicked out by Jill Dedman with 8:15 left in the half. Dedman had five saves for the Eagles.

Harrington kept the Terriers in the contest in the second half with a number of diving stops. She dove across the crease on a crossing pass to rob Christy Zider two minutes into the second half.

B.U. managed only one shot on goal in the second half, but it was it's best scoring chance of the contest. Junior forward Jane Rogers (Watertown, MA) stickhandled in from 45 yards out past the B.C. defense, only to be denied on the doorstep by Dedman.

"We need 70 minutes of intensity," said Starr. "Our defense played much better from the Princeton game, but we let this game get away from us."

The Terriers first home game of the season is next against America East rival Maine on Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m.
