Albany, NY - The B.U. women's lacrosse team snapped its' four game-losing streak with a 17-5 romp of Albany in the America East conference season-opener on Friday (April 12) in Albany, N.Y.

Freshman midfielder Alyssa Trudel (Middlebury, VT) had a game-high six assists, setting a new B.U. record for assists in a game, and chipped in two goals. Polly Purcell held the previous record set last season, dishing out five assists in a 23-1 win over Vermont.

"She's patient and really sees the field well," said Terrier coach Liza Shoemaker of Trudel. "Alyssa is such a threat with the ball that teams have to be concerned with her going to goal. That really opens things up for her as a feeder."

Ericka Hergenroeder (Annapolis, MD) scored a game-high five goals as 10 different Terriers scored.

The Terriers jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first 16:47 of play, led by two goals a piece from Trudel, Molly Byrne (Lake Placid, NY), and Katie Nordhoff (Ellicott City, MD). Kelly Trahon (Needham, MA) also had a goal and two assists during the run.

Albany's Maria Ferrucci scored three first half goals as B.U. held a 9-3 advantage at halftime.

The Terriers continued to roll early in the second. Trudel set up behind the cage and found Hergenroeder cutting across the 8-meter and connected with an opposite post pass. Hergenroeder fired a shot past goalie Michelle Talviste and into the top left corner of the cage at 28:48 of the second half.

"That play is all about trusting that the feeder can put the ball where the attack is asking," said Shoemaker. "Herg got the pass and made a great shot."

The Terriers would go on to outscore the Great Danes 8-2 in the second half, with three scores from Hergenroeder and single-goal efforts from Tiffany Mullan (Pheonix, MD), Hannah Cross (Concord, MA), Kristin Abruzzese (Medford, NJ), Briana Smith (Huntington, NY), and Rachel Olanoff (Rutland, VT).

All three Terrier goalkeepers saw action against Albany. Brooke Barrett (Bel Air, MD) made her 67th consecutive career start, allowing one goal and making three saves in 23:12 minutes of action. Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, MD) made five saves and allowed three goals in 22:28, and Lauren Beatty (Plainview, NY) had one save and allowed one goal in 14:20.

Talviste finished with 15 saves for the Great Danes.

With the win, the Terriers improve to 4-6 on the season and 1-0 in the America East.

"This win allows us to refocus as a team," said Shoemaker. "And, we can realize that we need to dominate in this league. Set a standard for B.U. lacrosse in the America East."

Looking for its first win against a ranked opponent, B.U. hosts fifth-ranked Cornell on Sunday at noon.
