BOX SCORE

For the second consecutive game, the Boston University women???s soccer team played to a draw, as the Terriers tied Princeton 2-2 Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field. BU also tied Fairfield 1-1 on Friday. BU is now 4-3-2 on the season, while Princeton is 1-3-2.

The Terriers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the first 14 minutes of the game, but could not hold on. Princeton was able to get a goal back in the first half, then gain the equalizer in the 66th minute. Emily Behckne blasted a high, hard shot from 25 yards out that cleared the reach of Terrier keeper Stephanie Dreyer (New Rochelle, NY).

Neither team could find the back of the net for the duration of regulation or overtime. The Tigers best shot came with four minutes remaining in the first extra session when Maura Gallagher hit a high shot that was curling toward the far post. Dreyer was able to leap and deflect the ball over the net and negate the scoring chance. BU???s best chances came on a pair of Ashley Locasale (Glenmoore, PA) free kicks, but they sailed high as well.

The first half was an eventful one, characterized not by the abundance of scoring opportunities, but the efficiency of them. BU registered its fastest goal of the season when the Susan Marschall (Baton Rouge, LA) scored on a corner kick from Meghann Cook (Melrose, MA) at the 4:45 mark. Cook lofted a perfect corner kick to the far side of the goal where Marschall redirected the ball with her head into a vacated net to give BU a 1-0 lead.

The Terriers did not have another scoring attempt until the 14th minute, however they again made the most of their chance. Erica Lee (Oakton, VA) handled the ball past midfield then lobbed a feed into the penalty box. Melissa Shulman (Huntington, NY), with her back to the goal, jumped up and hit a perfect header which floated over Princeton keeper Madeline Jackson and nestled in the net for a 2-0 Terrier lead. The tally was the second of the year for Shulman and the 27th of her career, just two shy of second place in the BU record books. The Terriers scored both their goals on four total first half shots.

The Tigers countered in the 29th minute when BU attempted to clear the ball out of its defensive end. PU midfielder Diana Matheson intercepted the ball knocked it back in over the Terrier defense. Behncke outran the BU pursuers and was able to chip the ball over Dreyer, who was onrushing. The ball trickled into an empty net, and the Tigers had cut their deficit in half, to 2-1.

For the game, BU was outshot 16-14. Dreyer was terrific in goal, and despite allowing two goals, registered eight tough saves. Emily Vogelzang relieved Jakcon and made seven brilliant saves to keep Princton in the game.

BU???s next action is on Wednesday when the Terriers travel across the river to take on Harvard in Cambridge at 4 p.m.
