CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Boston University field hockey team scored six unanswered goals after allowing an early tally to post a 6-1 home victory over Yale on Sunday afternoon at Jack Barry Field. Redshirt freshman Gabby Hajjar scored twice for the Terriers, who rebounded from Saturday's double-overtime loss at Vermont to improve to 8-5 on the year.
Senior Amy Seaman and junior Hayley Hamada each recorded a goal and an assist, while Hajjar's goals both came during a stretch where BU recorded three tallies in a span of just 2:08 in the second half.
Sophomore Lizzie Perreault and senior Erin Calamari each scored their first goal of the season, becoming the 13th and 14th different Terriers to record at least one goal this fall.
BU had to overcome an opportunisitc Yale squad in the early stages, as the Bulldogs scored on their lone shot of the first half in the eighth minute.
Senior Lindsay Collins blitzed down the middle of the field following a BU turnover and found junior Harriet Thayer outside the left post. Thayer stopped the ball before skipping it to the boards at the 7:19 mark.
After the Terriers were unsuccessful on numerous chances in the early stages, Perreault got the home squad on the board with a tally in the final second of the 25th minute. The sophomore charged the goal from the right side before manuvering a perfect lift over Yale goalkeeper Elizabeth Friedlander to the top left corner of the cage.
BU earned its ninth penalty corner of the opening half with under a minute left before intermission and took full advantage of it. A blast by sophomore Holly Wiles from the top of the circle was elevated to the netting by Seaman from seven yards out to give the Terriers a lead they would not relinquish.
In the fifth minute of the second half, sophomore Hadley Adams controlled the ball on the right side, forcing Friedlander to charge out the cage. Friedlander broke up the play initially, but Adams spotted junior Hayley Hamada all alone on the left side and got just enough of her stick on the ball to set up Hamada's second goal of the season.
Hajjar kickstarted the Terriers' three-goal spurt off a perfect cross from Hamada at the 53:21 mark.
BU put together a successful corner under a minute later, as Calamari punched a ball towards the cage from the left side of the circle that found its way to the boards.
Just over a minute after Calamari's tally, Seaman fed Hajjar to cap the three-goal run and help her record the first multi-goal game of her career.
Graduate netminder Erin Prediger made one save in goal for the Terriers, while Friedlander recorded seven saves. Charlotte Goins made one stop for the Bulldogs in the final 14:31 of action.
The Terriers outshot the Bulldogs by a wide 21-3 margin and held a 15-2 advantage in penalty corners.
BU will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 18, when it welcomes No. 9 Connecticut to Jack Barry Field for a 3 p.m. contest.
