ORONO, Maine - The Boston University women's soccer team remained unbeaten in conference action on Thursday afternoon as it defeated Maine, 3-1, in Orono, Maine. Junior defender Shannon Mullen scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute, while sophomore Casey Brown tallied her third goal in as many games. Freshman Stephanie Croghan added an insurance goal in the 68th minute as the Terriers improved to 6-5-2 overall and 3-0-0 in the America East. Maine falls to 4-5-2 overall and 2-1-0 in AE action. Senior Christina Reuter made four saves to earn the win.

The Terriers never trailed in the match as Brown (Natick, Mass.) netted the first goal in the contest at 30:49. Junior Marisha Schumacher-Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the first of her two assist in the game off the corner kick. Schumacher-Hodge sent a long ball into the box, where Brown nailed it into the upper right corner of the net.

BU held its lead for the next 15 minutes before the Black Bears evened the score at one just 30 seconds before time expired in the half. Christine LaBelle knotted the score off a pass in front of the net from Laura Martel.

The score remained tied until Mullen (Dallas, Texas) gave the Terriers the lead for good off a cross from the right side from Schumacher-Hodge. Mullen slotted it into the lower left corner of the net for the game winner at 64:11.

Four minutes later Croghan (McLean, Va.) added an insurance goal with a lob over goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips. Sophomore Farrell McClernon (West Chester, Pa.) recorded the assist on the goal.

Statistically, Maine held the slight edge in shots, 11-10, but both teams recorded five shots on goal. BU earned seven corner kicks in the match and held the Black Bears to one.

BU will host UMBC on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1:00 p.m.
