BOSTON - Junior Lauren Morton (Glenside, Pa.), sophomore Sarah Dalton (Cornwall, Vt.) and senior Angie Martin (Catonsville, Md.) each recorded three goals to lead the Boston University women's lacrosse team (4-4, 1-0 AE) past UMBC (3-7, 0-2 America East) in the Terriers' America East season-opener Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

Martin added an assist for a game-high four points on the day. Freshman Traci Landy (Seaford, N.Y.) and junior Molly Collins (Winchester, Mass.) each added two goals, while freshman Erica Baumgartner (Silver Spring, Md.) and sophomore Kelly Munroe (Westwood, Mass.) scored one goal apiece. Munroe's goal was the first of her career. Kara Dorr led UMBC on the attack, with three goals.

After swapping free position goals, BU posted five straight scores to take a 6-1 lead at the half. The Terriers capitalized on draw controls for the first two of those goals, as BU's Martin and Dalton each won a draw and took it straight in for the score. UMBC's Dorr and Abbey Swift found the back of the net at 29:16 and 27:39, respectively, to open the second half, but the Terriers responded with four unanswered goals to take a commanding 10-3 with 21:05 remaining.

Martin and Dalton each converted on free position attempts to put BU ahead by eight, 12-4, at 14:21 in the second. Dorr and Heather Licht combined for three straight goals as UMBC rallied to cut BU's lead to five, 12-7, at 6:39. But, once again, the Terriers had the answer as they scored the last three goals of the game for the final margin.

The Terriers out-shot the Retrievers 41-15 and were 4-for-7 on free position attempts. BU doubled UMBC on draw controls, 16-8, and picked up eight more groundballs (14-6).

BU closes out a four-game homestand with nearby rival Harvard on Wednesday, April 4 at 4 p.m. on Nickerson Field.
