STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Despite a career-high six-goal performance from sophomore Sarah Dalton, the Boston University lacrosse team could not overcome an 8-1 run spanning the halves and fell to Stony Brook, 16-13, on Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. The Terriers fall to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in America East play, while the Seawolves improve to 9-1 with a 2-0 conference mark.

The Terriers outshot the Seawolves, 34-27, and held a sizeable 21-8 advantage in ground balls, but Stony Brook was bolstered by its 15 saves from senior goalkeeper Jen Sandtorv. BU held a slim 16-15 edge in draw controls.

Senior Angie Martin tallied five points for the Terriers, including three goals, while junior Lauren Morton and freshman Traci Landy each recorded a goal and an assist. Goals from freshman McKinley Curro and senior Molly Collins, along with an assist by freshman Erica Baumgartner, rounded out the scoring for BU. Collins recorded a game-best five ground balls and matched Dalton for the game high in draw controls with four.

Junior goalkeeper Jenna Golden made three saves and allowed 11 goals before being replaced by redshirt freshman Rachel Klein, who stopped five of the 10 shots on goal she faced.

The Seawolves had four players with four points or more, including seniors Carlee Buck and Amy Taylor, who each tallied three goals and three assists. Classmate Emily Jaissle notched a team-best four goals and sophomore Kaitlin Leggio scored a goal to go along with a game-high three assists.

Dalton's third goal of the game with 11:02 left in the first half gave the Terriers a 7-3 lead. The home team, however, closed out the half on a 5-1 run - including three tallies from Jaissle - to make it an 8-8 contest at the half.

Using an assist from Martin, Dalton scored the first goal of the second half to give the Terriers a 9-8 edge, but the Seawolves reeled off five straight goals to take a lead they would not relinquish.

Goals just 11 seconds apart from Landy and Dalton made it a 13-11 contest with 17:38 to play, but Stony Brook held the visitors scoreless for nearly 14 minutes and scored three of the game's final five goals to earn its first-ever victory against BU in seven tries.

The Terriers will return to action on Monday, April 9, when they play host to Harvard under the lights of Nickerson Field at 7 p.m.
