The Boston University women's lacrosse team toppled Brown 16-4 Wednesday, with a 13-goal run propelling the Terriers to their second consecutive win to start the season. Senior co-captain Lauren Morton earned six points, including five goals, while senior co-captain Molly Collins and sophomore Traci Landy notched three goals apiece.
The Terriers and Bears exchanged goals in the opening minutes of the game, with Brown leading 3-2 after 16 minutes of play. However, Boston University then began its 13-goal tear, during which seven different Terriers scored. The Bears did not get back on the board until 16:05 of the second half, when BU had already run the score to 15-4.
BU led in both ground balls (26-19) and draw controls (14-8), while also going four for six on free-position chances.
Morton tied her career high five goals, which she had met on four previous occasions. She also matched a career high six points for the third time in her four year stint at BU. The co-captain earned two of her goals on free-positing opportunities, also gathering four ground balls. Her five controlled draws give her 142 for her career, tying her with the all-time BU leader, Alyssa Trudel '05.
Sophomore Erica Baumgartner also notched two goals and an assist, while sophomore McKinley Curro had a goal and an assist and junior Steph Walker and sophomore Xan Weitzel score one goal each.
Morton got the Terriers on the board at 3:58 of the first half off a pass from sophomore Traci Landy on the draw control, sparking a back-and-forth battle between the Terriers and Bears.
The Bears evened the score just a few minutes later, working the ball around the 4 meter fan for a goal at 10:11 of the first half, and the pulled ahead at 11:05 off a free-position opportunity.
Collins scored her first goal of the day at 14:23 of the first half, running through the Brown defense and slinging a shot past the goalkeeper to tie the score at 2-2.
After Brown scored again at 16:01 of the first half, Collins sparked a 13-0 run by the Terriers. During that run, Morton scored four times, Baumgartner and Landy each earned two goals and Xan, Walker and Curro each scored after Collins.
This weekend, the Terriers head to Evanston, Ill. to face No. 1/1 Northwestern, looking to exact revenge after a 17-4 loss last season at Nickerson Field.
