BOSTON -
After collecting 13 saves in an NCAA quarterfinal match-up against No. 1 Penn, sophomore Rachel Klein has been named the GoTerriers.com Student-Athlete of the Week. Klein made nine saves in the second half alone to keep the Terriers within reach of the second-seeded Quakers.
Though Boston University's 15-game winning streak was halted and its season was ended with an 8-5 loss to Penn, Klein has been an integral part of the Terriers success this year. After starting only three games last season, the Forest Hill, Md., native was the only goalkeeper on the 2008 roster. Klein helped the Terriers build one of the best defenses in the country to complement a powerful offense, allowing the ninth fewest goals per game in the nation (8.32) while holding the eighth best save percentage (.514). Klein also set a new program single-season record with 181 saves.
Klein has had impressive outings against first-ranked teams twice this season. On March 9, the sophomore stopped a personal-best 14 shots against No.1 Northwestern, the most saves a goalkeeper has had against the three-time defending national champion Wildcats this season.
