Backed by senior Jennifer Herman's goal in the 69th minute, the Boston University women's soccer team earned a 1-0 road triumph over Rhode Island on Thursday evening. Sophomore Janie Reilly made four saves in the shutout effort. The Terriers improve to 1-1-0, while the Rams fall to 0-2-0.
After an evenly played match through the first 68:01, sophomore Lina Cords stepped up to take a corner kick and launched the ball into the box where Herman was able to get on the end of it, heading it home for the game-winner.
In net, Reilly earned the start and delivered with a four-save effort to earn the shutout. The Coral Springs, Fla., native made two crucial stops in the waning minutes of the match to uphold the shutout.
BU and URI were even with 11 shots apiece; however, the Terriers held the decisive 6-1 edge in corner kick opportunities. Junior Farrell McClernon led all players with two shots on goal - three overall.
BU will return to action on Sunday, Aug. 31 when it travels to South Carolina for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
