Sept. 12, 2008
The Boston University Department of Athletics and WWZN 1510-AM have renewed their agreement for "The Zone" to continue to serve as the flagship radio home for Terrier Athletics for the next two years.
Men's ice hockey and men's basketball will be heard regularly on the 50,000-watt station with all regular-season, Beanpot and postseason games to be broadcast. WWZN also will continue to air the "BU All-Access", a magazine-style radio show that covers all of BU's 23 varsity sports. Previously a monthly program, "BU All-Access" now will air weekly.
"This has been a very successful partnership, and we are proud to see it continue," said Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike Lynch. "Together with 1510 `The Zone' we are able to offer Terrier fans a consistent home for BU Athletics on one of Boston's premier sports networks."
"BU is an important part of our sports-specific programming," said 1510 program director Kevin Koffman. "We look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with Boston University, and hope that all members of `Terrier Nation' will stay tuned to all of the exciting action brought to them on Boston's Sports Station, 1510 The Zone."
Bernie Corbett returns for a 24th straight season to call Terrier hockey, alongside 1988 co-captain Tom Ryan, who enters his 16th season on the broadcast.
Doug Brown returns for his fourth consecutive and 18th overall season as the voice of BU men's basketball (he called Terrier games from 1981 through 1995). Handling color commentary for home games at The Roof and Agganis Arena will be Mike Shalin, who returns for his third season. Brian Maurer also joins the broadcast team this year for away games.
Corbett and Maurer will team up to co-host "BU All-Access," to be broadcast weekly live from BU athletic events and the George Sherman Union.
All broadcasts will be streamed online at GoTerriers.com or 1510thezone.com.
