BOSTON - Freshman Chantell Alford recorded a career-best 19 points on Sunday afternoon, however, the Boston University women's basketball team (3-4) fell to Harvard, 85-68, at Lavietes Pavilion. Sophomores Alex Young and Caroline Stewart also recorded double figures with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

The first half was a tightly contested stanza, however, a game-changing 18-5 run in the second half broke open the score for Harvard, which went on to claim the 17-point victory.

BU shot .443 for the game and .333 from behind the arc, while the Crimson shot .508 from the field and .478 from 3-point range. In the first half, Harvard shot 34.5 percent, but upped it to 66.7 percent in the second half to double its offensive production.

Alford was 8-for-17 from the field with three steals, while Young hit 6-for-14 attempts with three helpers. Freshman Caitlynn Moran scored eight points and added a career-best eight assists to go along with five boards.

Alford played heavily into the Terriers' early scoring as she netted BU's first four points - one basket off her own steal - then assisted on Young's layup at 17:58 on a fastbreak. BU went on to take an 11-7 lead at 15:56 after junior Kerry Cashman went in for a layup; however, Harvard knotted it at 13 three minutes later. The Crimson continued on a 9-0 spurt to take a 17-13 advantage, however, Stewart broke up a nearly five-minute scoring drought at 9:42 and Alford drained a three shortly thereafter to reclaim the lead, 18-17. A few minutes later, BU responded with a 10-2 run to move the score to 28-23 in the Terriers favor at 3:11.

Late in the first half, four quick points gave the Terriers a slight 32-28 edge with just over a minute remaining and they maintained that lead heading into the locker rooms at halftime. Throughout the first 20 minutes of action, there were six lead changes, a tied score three times and the lead never extended beyond five points in the closely contested first stanza.

BU came out of the gates fast in the second half scoring seven quick points to up its lead to 11, 39-28, and it continued on an 11-2 run that would create a 13-point deficit, 43-30, for the Crimson just a few minutes into the second half.

However, a resilient Harvard side chipped away at the lead and took the 56-53 advantage, backed by a game-changing 18-5 run with eight points coming from Brogan Berry during that stretch. The Crimson continued its tear and upped its lead to 10, 70-60, and went into cruise control for the remainder of the game as it claimed the 85-68 victory.

BU will return to action on Wednesday (Dec. 9) when it heads to Yale for a 5:30 p.m. match-up.
