Box Score
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -
Led by five goals each from senior Sarah Dalton and junior Traci Landy, the 12th-ranked Boston University lacrosse team downed Yale, 12-6, on Wednesday afternoon at Reese Stadium. Senior Steph Walker and sophomore Hannah Frey also scored for the Terriers, who improve to 4-3 this season.
Junior Jessica Sturgill led the Bulldogs with a pair of goals off the bench, while senior Jenn Warden and junior Jenna Block each tallied a goal and an assist as Yale fell to 2-5.
The Terriers opened the game with three straight goals in a two-minute span as Landy and Dalton bookended the 10th goal of the season from Frey, who has now scored in each of the first seven games of her collegiate career and is the only Terrier to score a goal in every game this season.
The Bulldogs broke through just after the midway mark of the first half as sophomore Logan Greer put Yale on the board with 14:21 on the clock and Sturgill and Block followed with goals that leveled the score at 3-3 with 7:14 remaining before halftime.
Dalton and Walker scored for BU before the halftime whistle blew to give the Terriers a 5-3 lead at the break and BU opened the second half in similar fashion to the first, reeling off four unanswered goals, three of which came from Landy's stick to push the Terriers' lead to 9-3 with 18:06 to go.
Junior Natalie Reid stopped the skid with her first goal of the season for the Bulldogs and the teams traded goals the rest of the way before Dalton set up Landy with 1:35 on the clock to account for the final 12-6 margin.
The Terriers held a 30-17 advantage in shots and junior Rachel Klein made six saves for BU, while freshman Whitney Quackenbush stopped 11 shots in the opposite crease for the Bulldogs. BU picked up more ground balls by a 25-19 margin, while Yale had the 12-8 edge in draw controls.
The Terriers are back in action on Saturday (March 21), facing another Ivy League opponent when Harvard makes the short trek to Nickerson Field for a 1 p.m. contest.
