Crosstown rivals Boston University and Boston College will be teaming up to fight breast cancer when the Terriers and Eagles square off on the lacrosse field on Wednesday (April 8) in Newton, Mass. Wednesday's game will be an Under Armour Power in Pink breast cancer awareness game in honor and memorial of Joanne Fitzpatrick, mother of BC senior captain Lauren Fitzpatrick.
The Eagles will play in pink Under Armour uniforms, while the Terriers will be playing with Brine handles inspired and designed specifically for this game. This is the second specialty handle Brine, who is the official equipment sponsor of Boston University lacrosse, has created to benefit a charitable organization; the first being last season's Friends of Jaclyn handle with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.
Both teams will be selling commemorative "B-Line Rivals" t-shirts for the day with proceeds going directly to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, which raises money in the fight against women's cancers in partnership with the V Foundation for Cancer Research. In addition to sales at the game, t-shirts can be purchased by contacting BU assistant coach Katie Linnertz at 617-358-4165 or wlax@bu.edu.
Brine will launch the breast cancer handle nationwide in October with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. BU lacrosse will auction off five handles in advance with all monies going to the Komen Foundation. Stay tuned for more information this summer.
