Senick Wins 400m Dash

BOSTON - The Boston University men's track and field team took home a victory in its first head-to-head meet of the 2009-10 season, collecting 109 points to top Massachusetts (103) and Sacred Heart (98), Thursday at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. The Terriers posted the top-two finishes in five events on the evening, placing the top two scorers in the 400m, 800m, 1,000m, mile run and the shot put.

Joel Senick fronted the BU sprint corps with a 49.04 mark to win the 400m, followed immediately by teammate Davis VanOpdorp who crossed the line 51.42. Another Terrier twosome topped the results in the 800m as Billy Whelan took the title with a 1:58.28 run, followed by Michael Zimmerman's mark of 1:59.27. Balint Horvath (2:27.70) and Jeff Moreau (2:28.90) finished 1-2 in the 1,000m run while Craig MacPherson (4:12.94) and Robert Gibson (4:13.00) occupied the top two places in the mile. Jan Bicanic (14.77m) and Dan Withrow (14.39) took the top two spots in the shot put to boost the overall team score.

Other winners for the Terriers included Peter Gilmore, who took the title in the 3,000m with a time of 8:25.74, and Sam Arsenault, who captured the long jump title with a distance of 6.71m. The men's 4x400m relay team also won their race as Max Esposito, R.J. Page, Tewado Latty and Senick combined for a winning time of 3:20.75. Matt Pereira recorded a pair of third-place finishes on the evening, notching a time of 6.75 in the 55m dash and 23.03 in the 200m event. In the pole vault, Jordan Cumper captured three points for the Terriers with a clearance of 3.95m.

BU is back in action at the Terrier Invitational on Jan. 30 at the Track and Tennis Center.
