Box Score
BOSTON -Sophomores Chantell Alford and Mo Moran each scored 12 points, however, the Boston University women's basketball team (2-7) fell to Northeastern (3-4), 67-55, on Monday night at NU's Solomon Court.
Moran was 2-6 from the floor but netted seven points from the charity stripe, while Alford hit five of her eight shot attempts, including a pair of treys. Forwards Kerry Cashman and Caroline Stewart hauled in 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Cashman's presence on the boards also propelled her into the 300-rebound club as she now stands at 305.
BU shot 35.3 percent from the field, but got 31 points from its bench and 11 points off the fastbreak, however, 21 turnovers cost the squad 19 points. The Huskies were also aggressive in the paint as they scored 21 points inside.
NU came out fired up and took a quick 7-2 lead; however, sophomore Kristen Sims scored BU's first five points of the game as she got her first career start and kept the Huskies from pulling too far ahead. Cashman converted on a traditional 3-point play at 12:19 that ignited the Terriers as less than a minute later they embarked on a 10-2 spurt that pushed them ahead, 20-15. During the run, Moran and Stewart scored four points apiece.
The lead lasted for just three minutes though, as the Huskies responded by outscoring BU 11-1 over a four-minute period to reclaim the advantage, 26-21, with four minutes to go in the first half. At the break, the Huskies carried a 32-26 edge into the locker rooms as NU's Rachael Pecota hit two treys in the last minute of the frame.
It took BU five minutes of the second half to find a rhythm but back-to-back threes from Alford and sophomore Jacqueline Kuczynski gave BU a momentum swing to draw to within one point, 33-32, at 15:01. However, that was the closest the Terriers would get because by the 6:28 mark they found themselves in a 13-point hole, 52-39, as it was only able to make two field goals in an eight-minute span. Down the stretch the Huskies went to the free throw line to score eight of their final 10 points and claim the 12-point victory.
BU will host UMass on Wednesday (Dec. 8) at 5 p.m. at The Roof.
