CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -
After helping the No. 10/11 Boston University lacrosse team pick up a 10-8 road win over Massaschusetts in its season opener, senior Rachel Klein and freshman Danielle Etrasco have been named the America East Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Klein, who is in her third season as the Terriers' primary goalkeeper, stopped eight of the 16 shots she faced in the victory over the Minutewomen. The senior recorded five of her saves in the first half to help BU take a 7-3 halftime lead. She also recorded a game-high three ground balls and added a caused turnover.
In her collegiate debut, Etrasco put up four points on three goals and an assist. The freshman attacker scored the first goal of the game and was the primary scorer during a 35-second spurt that produced three BU goals late in the first half, as she assisted on the first and scored the final two. Etrasco also registered two ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.
The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday (March 3) for their home opener against Brown. Game time at Nickerson Field is set for 4 p.m.
