BOSTON - The No. 17/20 Boston University lacrosse team had its five-game win streak in its series with Boston College snapped on Wednesday evening, as the Terriers dropped an 18-11 contest to the No. NR/17 Eagles at Nickerson Field. Senior McKinley Curro (3g, 1a) and sophomore Catie Tilton (2g, 2a) each recorded four points for BU, which moves to an even 7-7 on the year.
BC (9-4) got on the board first just over two minutes into the game, but the Terriers proceeded to score five of the next six goals to take a 5-2 advantage with 14:24 left in the opening half. The Eagles, however, chipped away at the three-goal deficit and went on a 6-1 run spanning the halves to gain an 11-8 lead they would not relinquish.
Senior Lauren Costello paced BC with game highs in goals (5) and points (8), while junior Hannah Alley, sophomore Brittany Wilton and freshman Brooke Blue each tallied three goals on the night. Wilton added a pair of assists and junior Kristin Igoe recorded two goals and an assist.
BU had a 17-14 edge in draw controls, but the Eagles had a 30-25 advantage in shots. Each squad collected nine ground balls.
Senior Rachel Klein made five saves and allowed 15 goals in over 46 minutes of action, while freshman Kim Elsworth stopped one of the four shots she faced in 13:25 between the pipes. The Eagles got a 10-save performance from junior Sheila Serafino.
Curro and Igoe led their respective teams with a game-high three ground balls and sophomore Corcoran Downey caused a pair of turnovers for the Terriers.
BU had won its last five meetings against the Eagles, who earned their first road win in the series since 1987.
The Terriers now have three games - all America East contests - left in the regular season, beginning with a home contest against Stony Brook on Saturday at 1 p.m.
