BOSTON -
A six-goal performance by senior Christina Dove led No. 8/9 Syracuse to a 17-11 win over the No. 17/18 Boston University lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field. Senior Traci Landy matched a career high with six goals for the Terriers (5-6), who cut the deficit to two goals early in the second half, but the Orange (6-3) gave up only one goal over the final 20 minutes.
Senior McKinley Curro tallied a hat trick for BU and freshmen Danielle Etrasco and Kristen Mogavero each chipped in a goal as well. Senior Rachel Klein made six saves in goal.
The Orange got five-point efforts from freshman Michelle Tumolo (3g, 2a) and junior Tee Ladouceur (2g, 3a) as well as a hat trick from senior Halley Quillinan. Junior Liz Hogan stopped seven shots in goal for Syracuse.
The Terriers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Curro and Landy, but Tumolo netted a pair to level the score. Etrasco's goal with 19:10 remaining in the first half gave the Terriers a 5-3 lead, but the Orange reeled off three unanswered goals with Quillinan converting free-position shots to tie the game and give Syracuse its first lead of the game, 6-5, midway through the first half.
Landy evened the score with a free-position goal of her own, but the Orange scored the final four goals of the first half to take a 10-6 lead at the break.
After strikes from Landy and Curro 43 seconds apart cut the Syracuse lead to 12-10 with 21:03 to go, the Orange closed out the game on a 5-1 run.
The Orange outshot the Terriers by a 28-22 margin and Syracuse held advantages in ground balls (17-12) and draw controls (17-13) as well.
The game was the second annual Friends of Jaclyn Day for the Terriers, who welcomed Hannah O'Brien, a five-year-old from Weymouth who is battling brain cancer, to their team. Hannah was honored on the field before the game and in an adoption ceremony with the team after the game.
The Terriers are back in action on Wednesday (April 7) at 4 p.m., hosting conference rival New Hampshire at Nickerson Field in a rematch of the last two America East championship games.
