Postgame Interviews: Coach Roberts | Berube | Madzongwe
BOSTON - Junior Ben Berube recorded an assist in the first half and the game winner in the second to propel the Boston University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over 20th-ranked Harvard on Sunday night. Moving up to the front after playing in the back to start the season, the America East player of the game recorded his third goal of the weekend after two on Friday against Rhode Island to help the Terriers improve to 5-3-1.
BU first struck at 26:24 when Berube placed the ball inside the box for freshman Kelvin Madzongwe to head in for his first career points as a Terrier.
Harvard (2-2-3) though came back with two minutes remaining in the half, as Kyle Henderson curled in a free kick from just outside the box. Entering the locker room with a 1-1 tie, the Crimson led the Terriers in attempts, 6-4.
In the second half, senior Aaron O'Neal sent a cross toward the left side of the goal to freshman Vicente Colmenares, who placed the ball back into the box for Berube to knock in for the 2-1 lead.
BU's defense held strong and allowed Harvard to attempt just three total shots in the second half for the program's first win against a ranked squad since defeating then-No. 1 St. John's in 2009.
Redshirt freshman Brandon Briggs did not need to record a save for the win, while Austin Harms had two for the Crimson. The Terriers edged Harvard in shots, 12-9, and corner kicks, 4-1.
Earning its second consecutive victory after back-to-back shutout losses, BU will next enter conference play at Stony Brook on Saturday, Oct. 2 with action slated to begin at 7 p.m.
