Behind the Scenes Video

BOSTON -  Members of Terrier Nation now have even more access to their favorite teams as the Boston University Department of Athletics unveils today the start of a video series looking behind the scenes of the department. Debuting with a day in the life of second-year men’s basketball head coach Patrick Chambers, the inside look is a continuation of Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike Lynch’s vision to move BU deeper into the world of social media and provide students, alumni and fans more opportunities to connect with BU Athletics.

“Every day we look for new ways to reach our fans,” said Lynch. “It’s what we do here and the video series is another concept we are rolling out to bring people closer to our program. We think the behind the scenes access is unique and adds to the many new and innovative ways of following the Terriers.”

With his foresight, the Terriers developed the Twitter account, @BUAthletics, and became the first college athletics department in New England to reach 2,000 followers. A second handle, @BUGameDay, was added in the Fall to supplement breaking news with in-depth reporting from games, and a Facebook page was created to provide a medium for approximately 3,500 fans to interact with one another.

The 2010-11 school year also saw the addition of team Virtual Guides, which are online publications featuring facility video tours, interviews with coaches and links to various areas of GoTerriers.com, the official website of BU that underwent a redesign back in September. The recent launch of BU GameTracker, a mobile application providing updated scores and news for select sports, broadened the department’s outreach and interactive capabilities.

Finally, another key part of Lynch’s plan is the expansion of BU All-Access. In the past 12 months, fans have had the opportunity to watch field hockey and rowing events online for the first time. Broadcasts of these events along with ice hockey, soccer, lacrosse and basketball games include new and improved graphics and are followed by highlight packages available to the public.

Each week, fans can also watch online a 60-minute live show from the University’s George Sherman Union food court, where hosts Bernie Corbett and Brian Maurer interview coaches and student-athletes. Director of Athletics Mike Lynch appears at the end of each show to provide an update on the state of Terrier athletics.

More exciting initiatives are in the planning stages, and fans are always encouraged to provide comments, feedback and suggestions by e-mailing GoBU@bu.edu or by clicking here.
