WAKEFIELD, Mass. - After scoring three goals in a 4-0 win over Vermont, freshman Marie-Philip Poulin of the No. 3 Boston University women's ice hockey team has been named Hockey East's Rookie of the Week, the league office announced.
Poulin's hat trick, which included two power-play goals, against the Catamounts helped the Terriers earn their 100th win in program history. BU also matched a program high with its 19th win of the season.
The Beauceville, Que., native's second goal gave the forward 40 points for the season, breaking Melissa Anderson's ('10) previous record of 39. Anderson set the mark during the 2009-10 season. Poulin later added a power-play goal in the third stanza to complete the hat trick and tie Anderson's single-season goals mark.
The freshman, who ranks first among all rookies in the NCAA in points per game (2.05), leads Hockey East in both points (41) and assists (20). Poulin, who was named the conference's top rookie for the second straight week, has received Rookie of the Week recognition in five of the last seven weeks.
The Terriers will return to action on Friday (Jan. 28) when they begin a home-and-home series with Connecticut at Walter Brown Arena at 7 p.m. BU will then travel to UConn on Saturday (Jan. 29) for a 4 p.m. puck drop.
