WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Graduate student Catherine Ward of the No. 3 Boston University women's ice hockey team has been named Hockey East's Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced.

Ward, who received a weekly accolade for the first time this season, recorded three points (1g, 2a) in a weekend sweep over Connecticut on Jan. 28-29. With the wins, BU improved to 21-2-3 (11-1-3 HEA).

On Friday, the Montreal Que., helped the Terriers garner a 2-1 come-from-behind victory with a goal and an assist. She tied the game at 3:41 of the third frame when her shot from below the goal line went off the UConn netminder's pad and into the back of the net. She later helped set up freshman Marie-Philip Poulin's game-winner midway through the period.

In BU's 4-1 win against the Huskies on Saturday, Ward collected the primary assist on junior Jenelle Kohanchuk's goal as BU took a 4-0 lead.

The Terriers will return to action with two games against New Hampshire. BU will host the Wildcats on Thursday (Feb. 3) at 7 p.m. and will then travel to Durham, N.H., on Saturday (Feb. 5) for a 2 p.m. puck drop.
