WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Two Terriers were honored by Hockey East for their performances this past weekend, as senior Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ont.) was named Player of the Week and sophomore Kerrin Sperry (North Reading, Mass.) was chosen as Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Wakefield notched two goals and added an assist to help lead Boston University to a 4-1 win over North Dakota on Friday night. Her second period assist was the 150th point of her career. Both her goals came on special teams, as she tallied a power play goal in the second period before she potted a shorthanded goal in the third period.
Sperry was brilliant between the pipes in Friday’s win, as she stopped 32 shots and allowed just one goal. She remained solid on Saturday afternoon, as she made 37 saves for her third straight game with 30-plus saves, dating back to the 2011 NCAA title game.
The fourth-ranked Terriers return to action this Friday when BU hosts Niagara at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
